Skooters... what doesn't work? You have no information. Open a new thread.
Don't use WPS, ever. In fact it should be disabled in the router. Always connect to your router manually.
I bought a HP Officejet Pro to operate with a relatively new ASUS with windows 8.1. I can get the various test messages to print wirelessly, but when I try to print someting else it just doesn't work. I have used the Advanced Printer Setup on the computer, but it still does not work. I have tried the various HP dianostic and help downloads to no avail.
I previoulsy had an HP 4500 operating fine with my new ASUS with windows 8.1. I then started getting a message that it was "offline" when it wasn't. The HP 4500 is now at another location.
Thanks for trying, sabertooth. I've now spent over a week searching the internet, reading through manuals, running troubleshooters, repeating the installation process, and configuring the printer both manually and automatically. I've been buying HP for a long time but may have to reconsider for my next purchase. The once outstanding documentation and customer services has become pathetic and useless. The very thought of an installation wizard that sets up the printer wrong and then provides no hints on how to fix it makes me angry. Worst of all no one who actually collects any money from my purchase seems to give a **bleep**.
So you reset the printer back to factory defaults or not? Did you set a static IP correctly?
Hi,
I recently changed my router and also my SSID. I am trying to switch my printer over to the new SSID but am having great difficulty.
The printer works fine with a USB connection but I can not figure out how to make it work through WI-FI. I have tried making it connect using the WPS push and pin method without success.
I am running Mac OS X 10.9.
All the guides that I have read assumes that the printer is already on the network. I do not have the install CD that came with the printer.
I am trying to figure out how to make the switch a USB connection to a wireless connection without the use of the originall install CD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
can't set up for wireless use
Hi Sabertooth04 -- thanks for the reply so far.
I have tried to follow your directions but cannot make them work.
(1) The link you included to set a static IP is broken, so I cannot read the document you reference.
(2) I attempted to do this on my own. Here is what happens:
- My router DHCP range is 192.168.2.2-192.168.2.100
- I logged into my printer, then opened the "network" tab and "network address" page.
- This page lets me set to manual IP and will automatically suggest an IP address. The suggested
address is 192.168.2.236, so this looks good. It also sets my subnet mask to
255.255.255.0 (matching my router) and the manual default gateway to
192.168.2.1 (which is my router address).
-If I then select apply, it says "invalid input".
Sadly, it does not say what is wrong. The only other thing on this page is the
DNS address configuration which is also set to "manual" because I set the IP address to manual.
The manual DNS server and alternate DNS server are blank. I entered zeros for these two
entries, same as my router, but that won't work either.
(3) I tried using the wizard, hoping it would allow me to enter the manual IP, but no, it sets everything
up automatically.
(4) On the plus side, I have verified that the printer is set to "auto Off" , so I am partway there.
Any ideas on how I can force my printer to use a manual IP address?
That is a pretty ancient router. I assume it still does not work?
You could set your router DNS to the same as the printer (it is probably using your ISP's DNS right now).
I'm having the same problem. The HP "wireless" printer simply isn't what it says it is, wireless. I wish I read this forum before I decided to go HP again...
Hello huntersmommy21,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience here.
I understand you're unable to print a document on your computer. What type of printer do you have? Click here to find out: Model Number. How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB?
What is your operating system on your computer? Windows or Mac?
Please verify this information and I will assist you further! :smileyhappy:
:)
Nope you are not connected. Reset the printer back to Factory Defaults and reconnect again.
I have a Linsky Router which had to be reset for $30. 3 days working on this. Now my HP Photosmart C6300 Says it is offline and canot find my network. Cycled off the power to everything but modem and then used setup wizard no luck. Should I uninstall and reinstall the software?
I have a CenturyLink DSL Modem/Router that has 4 ports on the back. I use Port 1 on the DSL Modem/Router to conntect to my NetGear Router. I use Port 2 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer. I use Port 3 on the DSL Modem/Router to connect my Brother MFC-7360N printer. I am not using Port 4 of the DSL Modem/Router.
My NetGear Router is used to connect all wired desktop PC's (5) in the house.
I was able to successfully install the software for the Brother printer on all computers and can print on the Brother printer from any of the desktop pc's.
I have the software for the HP printer installed on all computers but on the WIN XP desktop pc I cannot detect the printer on the network. During the setup process the software detects that the HP printer and the WIN XP pc are connected to two different routers (the DSL Modem/Router is being detected as a router by the WIN XP pc). On the other desktop pc's which are running either WIN7 or WIN8 there is no detection problems even though the printer is connected to the DSL Modem/Router while the PC is conntected to the NetGear Router.
Does anyone have any knowledge as to why I am having this problem. The problem seems to be only with the WIN XP pc and not with the WIN7 or WIN8 pc's.
Hello smokie1,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand when accessing "Manage scan to computer", you're receive a message stating "PC activation App has stopped working". What type of printer do you have? Click here to find out: Model Number.
How long have you been experiencing this issue for?
How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB?

Thanks, I was wondering what a KVM switch was, thought it was a real Ethernet switch. Looks like it just switches the monitor to one of your two computers. Well don't really know why Win 8.1 is dropping and the others are 'ok'. Let do the following to set a base line for connectivity.
These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and make your router secure and hack proof.
1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here)outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed.
2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled. Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer
Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
8. Save all settings. Power off both, wait 5 mins. Power on router wait 3 mins.
9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1 Is Network Discovery on or off?
Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center/Advanced sharing settings.
Under Home or Work (current profile) / Network Discovery.
Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes.
